A mouse pad is a pad over which the computer mouse can be moved. A mouse pad provides increased for a smooth and clean surface that protects the desktop and comfort for mouse use. Also, a mouse pad is the collection of dirt and dust to a great extent against, important for the functioning and the life span of mice, especially traditional (non-optical).
The use of a mouse mat is necessary if the desktop has an unsuitable surface, by, for example, texture or color.
There are cards of different materials. About the suitability of certain materials Opinions are divided. Some people find the cheaper slippery mousepads hardly suitable, because the mouse has little grip. They prefer one with a rougher, fabric-like surface. Other people find smoother finer precisely, because the mouse sliding at less resistance more easily over the surface. Fans of computer games often prefer an extra slick mouse pad that has been developed specifically for gamers.
There are also cards with special pads on the front side, in order to rest it on the wrist, in connection with the prevention of RSI.
For some mice a special mouse pad required. This was the case with the first optical mice, and is still the case with special tablet mice. Today mousepads available with various options for embellishment, such as printing of an image, transparent cards where for example fluid shines, and mousepads with pockets for a picture or other type plate.
